Sophie Kinsella, the pen name of Madeleine Wickham, bestselling author of Confessions of a Shopaholic, died Dec. 10 at age 55. Wickham built an international readership with her comic novels about Becky Bloomwood, a young woman navigating life, love, and debt. Her work helped popularize modern “chick lit,” inspiring films, sequels, and a devoted global fan base. Wickham is survived by her husband and 5 children.
