Description:
Limmie Pulliam, the acclaimed Missouri-born tenor who overcame years of rejection to reclaim his place on the opera stage, died May 20 at 50. Told in his 20s that his size stood in the way of a career, he spent years working outside music before returning to earn praise for his powerful voice. In 2022, he made his Metropolitan Opera debut as Radamès in Aida, becoming the first Black tenor to perform the role at the Met.
