Description:
Rod Paige, former U.S. education secretary who championed and defended the No Child Left Behind Act, died Dec. 9 at age 92. Serving under President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2005, he pushed nationwide accountability standards and expanded testing requirements. Previously superintendent of Houston schools, Paige was the first Black education secretary in U.S. history.
