Description:
A pear tree is an ongoing theme. Janie describes wanting her marriage to be a blossoming pear tree. She describes the relationship of pollination, or sex, between the bee and the tree as being completely reciprocated in feeling. Janie lacks this reciprocated blossoming love until she meets Tea Cake, where she feels worth equal. She finally feels fulfilled and free with him, which is a dream she had since she first sat under the tree.
