Description:
Instead of being herself Geraldine tries to act as white as possible. She only allows her son to play with white children, or “proper†kids of color. She defines these children as quite and neat. When the cat dies Geraldine calls Pecola a dirty black bitch and kicks her out of the house. Morrison uses this event to explain how people of color are pressured to act like white folk, rather than forming their own lifestyle.
