Rajavarothiam Sampanthan, a prominent politicians & campaigner for Sri Lanka’s Tamil minority, has died at the age of 91. Serving 32 years as MP, he led Tamil National Alliance, a diverse political coalition representing the north & east of the country. Since the defeat of Tamil Tiger in 2009, he continued to demand equal rights for his marginalized group, and called on the UN's Human Rights Council to denounce ongoing oppression of Tamils.
