Description:

Morrison compares weeds to society’s view of women of color. Pecola sees weeds after purchasing candy from Mr. Yacobowski’s shop. She calls them ugly and recognizes that she is the weed. Society views her and others like her as ugly, just like weeds. It shames her that black girls and women can’t be considered beautiful. One of the most prominent messages in black feminism and the Bluest Eye is that black women and girls are truly beautiful.
