Description:
Joseph Lovett, an award-winning TV news producer & documentarian who brought national attention to the AIDS crisis, died July 14, at 80. As an openly gay journalist at CBS and ABC, Lovett pushed for coverage that destigmatized queer lives affected by the epidemic. His 1983 20/20 segment was one of the first long-form reports on AIDS. He continued using film to highlight public health issues. Lovett is survived by his husband, Dr. Jim Cottrell.
