Description:
Lynn Conway, a computer scientist fired by IBM in the 1960s after disclosing she was transgender, died on June 9 at age 86. Conway was among the earliest Americans to undergo transition surgery. She is heralded with early contributions to supercomputers at IBM, and a process which led to new way to design computer chips, at Xerox. Conway publicly disclosed her transition in 1999 & became an activist. IBM offered an apology to Conway in 2020.
