Description:
Jason Collins, the former NBA center who became the league’s first openly gay player, died May 12 at age 47. A veteran of 13 NBA seasons, he played for teams including the Nets, Celtics, and Wizards before publicly coming out in 2013 in a landmark moment for professional sports. Collins later became an advocate for LGBTQ visibility and inclusion in athletics.
