An HIV/AIDS activist, Broadbent died on February 20, 2024, at 39. Abandoned by her HIV positive birth mother at a Las Vegas hospital, she was adopted and found to be HIV positive. She developed AIDS at age 5. At 7 years old, Broadbent said, "I want people to know that we're just normal people.” Broadbent spoke to audiences around the world and appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show, in hopes that sharing her story, would create change.
