Former dean of New York’s congressional delegation, & first Black chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Charles B. Rangel died May 26 at age 94. Rangel, part of Harlem’s Democratic old guard, was first elected to Congress in 1970, & went on to serve for 46 years, retiring in 2016. In 2010, Rangel was censured for violating House ethics rules by not disclosing rental from his properties. He was preceded in death by his wife Alma.
