Maggie Smith, Oscar-winning star of stage and screen, died on Sept 27 at age 89. Smith's career began in the 1950s with roles ranging from Desdemona to Miss Jean Brodie, Virginia Woolf and Minerva McGonagall. She won an Oscar for best supporting actress in Neil Simon's California Suite in 1979. Smith's fame skyrocketed even further with her roles in the Harry Potter movies and TV's Downton Abby.
