Description:
Kanchha Sherpa, the last surviving member of the 1953 expedition that first reached the summit of Mount Everest, has died in Kathmandu at 92. At just 19, he joined Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay’s historic team as a porter, carrying supplies to base camp and beyond 8,000 meters. Revered as a legend by fellow climbers, he later worked two decades more before retiring at his wife’s request.
