Collective Memory of D-Day (June 6, 1944). Today, we remember the allied invasion of Normandy during World War II. It was a bittersweet and emotional day for this country. More than 9,000 allied soldiers were killed or wounded, but their sacrifice eventually lead to defeating Hitler and the Nazis in WWII.
