Description:
Elwood Edwards, who in the 1990’s was heard by millions, yet never seen, died Nov 5 at age 74. Edwards voiced AOL’s “You’ve got mail” greeting, & was also the voice of AOL’s “Welcome”, “Goodbye” & “File’s done” messages. He made $200 from the recordings. Edwards taped his AOL greeting on a recorder in his home in 1989. “You’ve got mail” became a catchphrase in the late 1990s and served as the title of the 1998 film starring Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan.
