Description:
Marigolds are used to symbolize life, birth, and nature in the Bluest Eye. Claudia and Frieda plant marigolds in their backyard If they bloom then Pecola’s baby will be born. They symbolize the natural order and a possibility for birth and renewal. However the marigolds never bloom and Pecola’s baby dies. This is significant because it shows how the natural order didn't work due to the incestual nature of Pecola's pregnancy.
