Description:
Sandra Gilbert, poet & literary critic who co-authored the landmark second wave feminist book, The Madwoman in the Attic, died Nov 10 at age 87. The 1979 book – written with Susan Gubar, explored how 19th century female writers used images & characters embodying madness & rebellion, representing a rejection of oppression. From 1985-1989, Gilbert was an English professor at Princeton University. She also wrote 9 books of poetry.
