Asylum seekers Felipe Gómez Alonzo (2010–12/24/2018) and his father, Agustin Gómez, were Chuj-speaking migrants from Yalambojoch, a settlement in the municipality of Nentón, in Huehuetenango Department. When they crossed the NM border, Alonzo began to show symptoms of illness; he had a 103°F (39.4 °C) fever, and was diagnosed with a common cold, but was not tested for influenza. He died minutes before midnight on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2018.
