Description:
Retired Supreme Court Justice David H. Souter, the New Hampshire Republican appointed by George H.W. Bush and served for nearly 20 years on the bench, died May 8 at age 85. Souter, who served from 1990 to 2009, was a reliably liberal vote on abortion, church-state relations, freedom of expression and the accessibility of federal courts.
