Description:
Frank Stella, American painter and sculptor and a leading figure in the Minimalist art movement, died on May 4, 2024. He was 87. Stella began in abstract expressionism in the 1950s, & later became known for his irregularly shaped works & large-scale multimedia reliefs. He then moved towards geometric and curvilinear shapes, organic shapes, vivid colors and large free-standing sculptures. Stella lived and worked in New York City.
