Étienne-Émile Baulieu, the French scientist who invented the abortion pill, died May 30 at age 98. Guided by his commitment to progress & women’s freedom, Dr. Baulieu’s famous discovery in 1982, helped create mifepristone which provided a safe and affordable alternative to surgical abortions. In his early life, he fought in the French Resistance against Nazi occupation.
