Description:

Fernando Valenzuela, the Mexican pitcher who helped the LA Dodgers win the 1981 World Series with his screwball pitch, died Oct. 22 at 63. “Fernandomania” was everywhere in Valenzuela’s exciting rookie year. A six-time All Star, he went 141-116 with a 3.31 ERA with the Dodgers. Valenzuela spent 17 years in the MLB. After retiring from the game, he became a broadcaster for L.A. Spanish-language radio. In 2023, the Dodgers retired his number 34.
