Description:
The hurricane represents the idea that some events are all powerful and are beyond people's control. The hurricane itself shows its complete destructive nature through its chaos it brings to the characters. They have know idea what is will happen to them and if they will survive. A similar idea of Joe being a "whirlwind" towards the townsfolk similarly portrays him as being chaotic. The people are at the complete mercy of his decisions and power.
