Description:
Pecola’s family is plagued with alcoholism and it is destroying their relationships. Because of this Pecola doesn’t have a solid role model. Specifically a father figure. She ponders why her family isn’t telling her how beautiful she is rather than fighting. Morrison focuses on the importance of having a strong role model and how they are required to build one's confidence, and make them feel wanted. This is a common message in black feminism.
