Paweł Bogdan Adamowicz (11/02/1965-01/14/2019) was a Polish politician and lawyer who served as Mayor of the city of Gdańsk, Poland, from 1998 until his assassination in 2019, when he was stabbed on stage during a live charity event. Adamowicz was one of the organizers of the 1988 strike. In 1990, he was elected a member of the Gdańsk City Council. He was known as a progressive voice, supporting LGBT rights, immigrants and minority groups.
